Rafael Câmara to Race for Haas F1 Team in 2027 Season

The Haas F1 Team has officially announced the recruitment of Brazilian driver Rafael Câmara for the upcoming 2027 Formula 1 season. Following an outstanding first year in Formula 2, Câmara is ready to make his mark in the top tier of motorsport.

Promising Rookie Season

At just 21 years old, Câmara has shown remarkable talent in single-seater racing, securing three victories alongside five pole positions and seven podium finishes in his rookie season. Currently, he leads the Drivers’ Championship with only two races left in the season, showcasing his potential as a future star in the sport.

Câmara's impressive record also includes winning the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024 and the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2025, making him a formidable competitor as he graduates to Formula 1.

Experience with Haas

Rafael is not unfamiliar with the workings of a Formula 1 car, having previously tested the Haas VF-25 at the TPC event in August at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, located in Portimao, Portugal. This experience is invaluable as he transitions from junior formulas to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Gratitude for New Opportunity

Now preparing for this new chapter, Câmara expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for being selected as a full-time driver for Haas. “I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver,” he said. He acknowledged the trust placed in him by team owner Gene Haas and team principal Ayao Komatsu, as well as the support he has received from the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy and his family throughout his journey.

Team Management's Excitement

Ayao Komatsu, the Team Principal, expressed his excitement about bringing Câmara onboard, emphasizing the young driver’s capabilities. “I’m really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent like Rafael Câmara,” Komatsu remarked. He noted Câmara's impressive performance under pressure, particularly during qualifiers at Monaco and Montreal, highlighting his ability to perform at a high level even in challenging situations.

Komatsu praised Câmara’s ability to adapt quickly to the car during testing, stating, “Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, which was very impressive.” The team is committed to fostering Câmara’s growth as a driver, ensuring a supportive environment for him to thrive.

Looking Ahead

Gene Haas, the owner of the team, also conveyed his enthusiasm for Câmara's upcoming tenure. Haas remarked, “I’m excited to see what Rafael Câmara can achieve in Formula 1 having seen his accomplishments coming up through the ranks in Formula 3 and now Formula 2 this year.” He pointed out the unique challenges that F1 presents but expressed confidence in Câmara's preparedness, similar to past young talents like Ollie Bearman.

Haas concluded by noting Câmara's impressive performance during the TPC event, anticipating productive collaboration as the driver steps into his new role full-time next season.
