Rafael Camara Set to Drive for Haas in F1 Starting 2027

The Haas Formula 1 Team has officially announced the signing of Rafael Camara, the talented Brazilian driver currently leading the Formula 2 championship, for the 2027 season. The deal, which spans multiple years, positions Camara as a key asset for Haas as they look to enhance their competitive edge in the sport.

Rising Star in Focus

At just 21 years old, Camara has made remarkable strides in his racing career. His achievements include winning the Formula 3 championship last year and currently holding the top spot in the Formula 2 standings with only two rounds remaining. His talent has not gone unnoticed, as he has been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021.

"I'm very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver," said Camara, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity.

Prepared for the Challenge

Camara is set to replace Esteban Ocon, whose departure from Haas was confirmed last month after two seasons with the team. Praising the support he has received, Camara noted, "I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me. I'm also very grateful to the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy for their support... and to my family for always being there."

Camara has already showcased his capabilities by testing Haas’s 2025 car at Portimao in August, where he impressed team officials with his adaptability and performance under pressure.

"Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself," said team boss Komatsu, reflecting on Camara's potential.

Team Dynamics and Future Expectations

Haas owner Gene Haas has expressed optimism regarding Camara’s upcoming transition to F1, drawing parallels with Oliver Bearman, who joined the team in 2025. Bearman has significantly outperformed Ocon during his time at Haas, setting a high bar for Camara.

"These younger drivers are well prepared and they can make an immediate impact on a team," Haas noted.

Currently, Camara’s move marks the sole driver change on the grid for the 2027 season, although the future of Bearman remains uncertain as he is yet to finalize terms for an extension with Haas. Team principal Komatsu confidently stated their intention to continue working with Bearman, highlighting his speed and positive influence on the team.

A Glimpse Ahead

As Formula 1 gears up for the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin from October 23-25, attention will shift towards how Camara’s integration into Haas unfolds. With aspirations to build on their current performance, the team is committed to developing an environment where Camara can thrive and further his career in the pinnacle of motorsport.
