Titans Coach Robert Saleh Reflects on Jordan Elliott Incident

In a heartfelt response to the recent gun incident involving Jordan Elliott, former Tennessee Titans defensive tackle, head coach Robert Saleh characterized the act as more of a plea for help rather than a mere criminal offense.

A Call for Understanding

During a press conference on Wednesday, Saleh expressed his deep concern for Elliott, suggesting that the player's actions stemmed from a deeper emotional struggle. He refrained from confirming any specific issues regarding self-harm while highlighting the need for compassion in light of the recent events.

“He’s a good man who just had a significant lapse in judgment,” Saleh explained. “I perceive this more as a cry for help than anything criminal.”

The Incident Details

Reports indicate that Elliott, following a confrontation with offensive tackle J.C. Latham after practice, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle in the parking lot. The incident raised serious concerns, especially given that possession of a firearm at an NFL facility violates league regulations.

“Let’s take a moment before jumping to conclusions regarding an incident where a man who has been a devoted father and husband pulls a gun,” Saleh urged. “There are underlying factors here that we should consider.”

Support and Mental Health Awareness

Following the event, the Titans decided to release Elliott, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation while also ensuring he receives the necessary assistance. Saleh highlighted the necessity of addressing mental health within sports, referring to previous tragedies within the league.

“The team and the NFL demonstrated foresight by ensuring that Elliott receives the help he needs,” he noted.
