The journey to secure a place in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 has intensified after the conclusion of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle this week.

Oman's Triumph in League 2

In a tense finish, Oman became the fourth team to earn their spot in the upcoming Cricket World Cup Qualifier by outperforming Namibia in the standings. This was mainly due to a better Net Run Rate, even though Oman faced defeat on the last day of the competition.

However, Namibia's journey isn't over yet. Joining them are Nepal, UAE, and Canada, all of which occupy the bottom four spots in League 2. These teams now have an opportunity to qualify through the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

Current Landscape for World Cup Qualification

A total of 14 teams remain in contention for the four remaining spots at the Cricket World Cup 2027. Six teams have already secured their places in the Qualifier, while the other eight will compete in December for the last four slots.

Teams that finished in the bottom four of League 2, including Namibia, Nepal, Canada, and UAE, will not be eliminated just yet. They will have a second chance to qualify through the Qualifier Play-off in December.

Final Play-off Teams and Their Pathways

The Qualifier Play-off will consist of eight teams, made up of the bottom four from League 2 and the four teams that performed well in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League. This Challenge League serves as the third tier of 50-over cricket.

The teams which advanced from this league include:

  • Jersey
  • Kuwait
  • Italy
  • Uganda

The top four teams at this Play-off will join the previously qualified six to compete in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
