Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has come forward to defend Bhuvneshwar Kumar following the fast bowler's difficult return to international cricket after an extended hiatus. Having not played for India in nearly four years, Bhuvneshwar faced criticism after his performance in the T20I match against New Zealand.

Challenges of Returning After a Long Break

Bhuvneshwar made his much-anticipated comeback in a series against New Zealand, but it didn't go as planned. In his first match back, he allowed 49 runs without taking any wickets in four overs, which included several no-balls that further exacerbated his team’s woes.

However, Kaif believes that placing immediate judgment on the 36-year-old speedster is hasty. “He is returning after a significant time away from the game,” Kaif remarked on his YouTube platform. “It is crucial to provide him with the time needed to adjust to the rigors of the current game.”

Understanding the Context of International Cricket

Kaif made an important distinction between the pressures of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and those of international cricket. While Bhuvneshwar has shown exceptional form in IPL matches, the international arena is underpinned by its own set of challenges.

“The complexion of the game has evolved drastically,” Kaif stated. “Competing in the IPL is world apart from representing your country. One must keep in mind that conditions that may seem conducive to batting can sometimes be deceptive.”

Addressing No-Ball Concerns

While Bhuvneshwar's figures drew scrutiny, Kaif stressed the importance of looking beyond mere statistics. Historically known for his accuracy, Kumar’s performance was disappointing, but Kaif remained optimistic.
