Evie Hunter, the daughter of snooker icon Paul Hunter, is stepping into the limelight as she shares her journey two decades after her father's passing. At just 20 years old, she has inherited her father's striking looks but humorously admits she’s not quite the athlete he was.

A Legacy Remembered

Paul Hunter, who was once ranked fourth in the world and won the prestigious Masters tournament three times, left an unforgettable mark on the sport before his untimely death on October 9, 2006, due to rare neuroendocrine cancer. Evie, who was only 10 months old when he passed, is now preparing to present the Paul Hunter Trophy at the 2027 Masters in London, an event that fills her with excitement and nerves.

Following in His Footsteps

Evie reflected on her lack of prowess in both pool and snooker, noting that she often jokes with friends about her skills. “I’ve played more pool than snooker, but I’m not great at either,” she said. “Friends tell me, 'Maybe you need more practice.' I often think I should be better at snooker, yet I’ve definitely not inherited that talent.” However, she acknowledges some similarities between her and her father, particularly their smiles.

Despite her father's absence during key moments of her life, Evie feels supported by their shared family memories. “I've been fortunate to have a loving family around me,” she shared, reflecting on how both her parents and her stepdad, Jonny Mcdonald, have contributed to her upbringing.

Embracing Challenges and Celebrating Life

Evie's upcoming milestone, her 21st birthday, has prompted her to think about everything her father missed, including major life celebrations. “I know he would have been there for me,” she expressed, underscoring the deep emotional bond they share, despite the years apart. “It's not a sad situation for me, as I've had wonderful memories with my family.”

Currently, Evie is completing her studies in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Manchester. She is also in a serious relationship with a professional rugby player, whom she hopes to marry someday.

“Family members often remind me how proud Paul would be. My father left school at 14; it’s a stark contrast to my university journey,” she noted. “His memory continues to be very much alive at home. We share stories and visit his grave on special occasions, where we commemorate his legacy.”

Remembering and Honoring Paul Hunter

Evie often finds herself longing to have known her father better. “Sometimes I watch snooker to feel a connection to him,” she said. “I sometimes ask Mom about the rules during a match because I’m still learning.”

A copy of her mother’s memoir, which details their life as a family and the challenges faced, sits by her bedside. “It’s emotional to read, and I’ve yet to finish it,” she shared, recognizing her journey to understand her father’s story through her mother’s words.

As she prepares for her debut at the Masters, Evie is excited about potential opportunities in the future that may arise because of her father's legacy. “I want to carry on what he started and make him proud,” she declared passionately. “Paul was incredibly talented and had so much left to accomplish. I wish he had the chance to fulfill all his dreams.”
