Green, who plays primarily at the power forward position, is a four-time NBA champion, a four-time NBA All-Star, a two-time member of the All-NBA Team, a seven-time member of the All-Defensive Team and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

In 2017, he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award and led the league in steals.

Warriors

Green was selected with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. On July 30, 2012, he signed a three-year, $2.6 million contract with the Warriors.

In his NBA debut in the Warriors’ season opener on October 31 against the Phoenix Suns, Green played one minute, made one defensive rebound, and committed one foul.

Green gradually received more playing time in subsequent games, especially in the wake of injuries to Brandon Rush and Richard Jefferson.

After getting only marginal floor time at the beginning of the season, by November 22, Green was playing 15–20 minutes per game, and by December 9, as Green gained a bigger role on the team, the Warriors had won 8 of 10 games.

On December 12, Green made the winning layup with 0.9 seconds left in the Warriors’ 97–95 win over the defending champion Miami Heat.

On December 20, 2021, Green recorded his 31st career triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in a 113–98 win over the Sacramento Kings, tying Boston Celtics legend John Havlicek for 15th on the all-time career triple-double list.

And On February 3, 2022, Green was named a reserve for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game. It was his fourth career All-Star selection and first since 2018.

Green missed 31 consecutive games from January to March with a back injury. Up to that point, he was mentioned as one of the favorites to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Despite playing in just 46 games, Green was selected to his seventh NBA All-Defensive Team, earning second-team honors.

The Warriors advanced to the 2022 NBA Finals, and he won his fourth NBA championship after they defeated the Celtics in six games.

The Warriors reportedly stopped practice, and while Charania and Slater noted that Poole and Green are known to “regularly get into verbal arguments,” team management believes a line was crossed this time, and disciplinary action is likely imminent for Green.

A lot has been made this offseason about the looming contract decisions the Warriors will have to make with their extension-eligible players. The sense around the league is that one of Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and Andrew Wiggins will not be extended.

This altercation likely had nothing to do with contract disputes or anything related to extension talks, but that could be a topic that is weighing on the minds of players like Green and Poole, possibly adding additional stress to this part of the summer.

Fight

This isn’t how Golden State wants to tip off its championship defense.

The Warriors are considering discipline for Draymond Green after his involvement in a fight with teammate Jordan Poole, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.

Per the report, a “heated interaction” escalated at Warriors practice on Wednesday when Green “forcefully struck Poole.” Prior to Green striking Poole, the two players went chest-to-chest while pushing and shoving each other, according to the report.

The Warriors ended practice after the altercation and are leaning toward disciplining Green for the escalation, according to the report. It’s not clear what type of discipline Green might face. There was no report of either player sustaining an injury in the altercation.

If he is disciplined, it won’t be the first time for Green. The 10-year veteran has racked up multiple fines and suspensions throughout his career, usually at the behest of the NBA.

But the Warriors have disciplined Green as well. They suspended him for a single game in 2018 for “conduct detrimental to the team.” That time he called then-teammate Kevin Durant a “bitch” during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

So far there’s no video of Wednesday’s reported incident. But if verbally insulting a teammate warrants a suspension, it stands to reason that striking one would too.

On May 8, Green started Game 2 of the Warriors’ second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

In the Warriors’ 100–91 victory, the Warriors’ first victory in San Antonio since the 1996–97 season, Green started in place of Festus Ezeli. Green played 32 minutes and recorded 5 points on 2-of-8 shooting, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Spurs went on to win the series 4 games to 2, subsequently ending the Warriors’ season and playoff run.

Green lost 20 pounds in the 2013 off-season and showed improvement in three-point shooting and defense as a sophomore.

On December 1, 2013, in the Warriors’ 115–113 win over the Sacramento Kings, Green tipped in a missed shot by Stephen Curry to give the Warriors a 113–111 lead with 28.7 seconds left; the Kings trailed by as many as 16 in the game.

Green finished the 2013–14 season having played in all 82 games with 12 starts while averaging 6.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
