FIFA Announces Exciting New Women's Tournament

The FIFA Women's Club World Cup is officially confirmed to take place in the USA from January 5 to January 30, 2028. This groundbreaking event will showcase 19 top clubs from around the globe.

Why the USA?

FIFA selected the United States as the host nation based on several key factors. The country has extensive experience in organizing major sporting tournaments. Additionally, its well-developed infrastructure and strong stakeholder commitment to women's football played a significant role in this decision.

The US has a noteworthy history of hosting large-scale events, including the men's World Cup earlier this year, demonstrating its capability to manage major sporting spectacles.

Competing Teams From Around the World

The inaugural tournament will bring together clubs from all six continental confederations, including:

  • Three teams each from Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), North America (CONCACAF), and South America (CONMEBOL).
  • One representative from Oceania (OFC).
  • Six of Europe's top clubs will proudly represent UEFA.

Already, seven clubs have confirmed their participation:

  • Arsenal (England)
  • Club America Femenil (Mexico)
  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Gotham FC (USA)
  • Naegohyang (North Korea)
  • Corinthians (Brazil)
  • Wuhan Jiangda (China)

A Platform for Women’s Football

Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s Chief Women's Football Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the tournament: "These seven clubs, along with many others, will highlight the strength and depth of women's club football on a global stage." She emphasized that this event offers clubs the chance to share their stories, grow their fanbases, and represent their clubs internationally.

The establishment of this tournament is viewed as a significant step in the professionalization and global expansion of the women's club game, giving elite teams a prestigious platform to compete every four years.

Strategic Scheduling

Originally planned for 2026, the tournament was postponed to 2028 to ensure it occurs after the 2027 Women’s World Cup and before the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. This strategic timing will allow for maximum participation and audience engagement.

With this inaugural Women's Club World Cup, FIFA aims to elevate the profile of women's football, shining a light on talented players and clubs ready to showcase their abilities on an international stage.
