Carlton, trained by James Owen, is a proven all‑weather performer and arrives off a hurdles success at Huntingdon; he returns to the flat only four pounds above his Chelmsford victory in February and the step up to two miles could suit his stamina. Adjuvant, formerly rated higher, struggled in Doncaster’s big November handicap and is only on his second AW outing, but this is a gentler assignment where he could rediscover form. Imperial Sovereign remains consistent, while Senor Cortez is one to watch on just his second start for John Butler.

A tricky handicap where Tilted Kilt and last year’s winner Down To The Kid are among the principals. Down To The Kid finished strongly when beaten by Legal Reform over seven furlongs here last time and drops in grade, making him a live contender. Tilted Kilt has eased to a workable mark after failing to add to his 2024 debut success; he looked a touch unlucky two runs back at Haydock and, if fully tuned up on his return, is dangerous. Star Studied disappointed when favourite at Wolverhampton but is worth another look, and Eldrickjones should not be dismissed if reproducing his best winter form.
