Overview
The centenary Ryder Cup takes place September 17–19, 2027, marking 100 years since the inaugural match in Massachusetts in 1927. Team Europe will defend the trophy against Team USA at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland.
Venue: Adare Manor
Adare Manor, set on the River Maigue, was extensively renovated in 2017 and has hosted events such as the Irish Open (2007, 2008) and the JP McManus Pro-Am (2005, 2010, 2022). It is the stage for the 2027 centenary contest.
Past Irish host and recent holders
Ireland last hosted the Ryder Cup in 2006 at The K Club in County Kildare, where Europe (captain Ian Woosnam) beat the USA 18.5–9.5. Team Europe are the current holders after a 15–13 victory at Bethpage Black in 2025; they also won in Rome in 2023.
Captains
Team Europe: Luke Donald has been announced as Europe’s captain for 2027. He becomes the first European since Bernard Gallacher to lead three consecutive Ryder Cups, having captained in 2023 and 2025.
Team USA: Keegan Bradley captained the U.S. in 2025. The 2027 U.S. captain will be announced closer to the event. Tiger Woods was linked with the role but has ruled himself out while stepping away from competition following health issues after his car crash.
Home advantage
Home teams have enjoyed strong records in recent decades. Europe has won the last seven Ryder Cups held on home soil (a streak dating back to 1993). The 2025 result at Bethpage Black ended a run of five consecutive Ryder Cups won by the home team.
Qualification
Both Team Europe and Team USA have yet to publish their qualification systems or schedules for 2027. Each side typically confirms points lists and selection criteria in the years leading up to the event.
Format
The Ryder Cup is contested over three days and comprises 28 match-play matches:
– Foursomes: Two-player teams alternate shots with one ball. Four foursome matches Friday morning and four Saturday morning.
– Fourballs: Two-player teams each play their own ball; the lower score of the pair counts. Four fourball matches Friday afternoon and four Saturday afternoon.
– Singles: All 24 players compete in head-to-head singles matches on Sunday (12 matches).
A team needs 14.5 points to win the Cup, or 14 points to retain it if they are the current holders.
Viewing in the UK and Ireland
Sky Sports (and streaming service NOW) will be the exclusive live broadcasters of the Ryder Cup in the UK and Ireland under a four-year extension that covers the 2027 and 2029 events, and the DP World Tour through at least the end of 2029.
What to watch for
Key storylines for 2027 include Europe aiming to defend on home soil in the centenary year, Luke Donald’s third consecutive captaincy, the U.S. captaincy appointment, and which players qualify under each team’s yet-to-be-announced selection systems.
