Camulus and Rosscahill are the leading fancies for the 2026 Xenon Workplace North Wales National Handicap Chase at Bangor-on-Dee, live on Sky Sports Racing this afternoon.
1.55 Bangor — North Wales National
The marathon contest has a typically wide-open look with 13 declared. Camulus, trained by Venetia Williams, looks primed to make the most of a step up in trip and bid for a third consecutive victory. He won comfortably at Leicester and Taunton around this time last year and returns after 353 days off, despite Williams’ yard not being in top form lately.
Rosscahill, trained by the Twiston-Davies team, was highly regarded over hurdles and showed promise before being pulled up on his chasing debut at Ffos Las last October when sent off 5-4f. He reappears on his comeback and questions remain, but he has the ability to be competitive if reproducing his earlier form.
Other each-way contenders include JP McManus’s Wal Buck’s (runner-up at Ayr), plus Gold Emery and Icaque de L’Isle.
4.22 Wolverhampton — The Midnite: Built For 2026 Not 2006 Handicap
Stayers Enemy, Roaring Legend and Prydwen clash in this staying handicap. Enemy showed he retains plenty of ability when dropped to 12 furlongs to win a Class 3 handicap at Southwell on New Year’s Day and must be respected despite a 4 lb rise.
Roaring Legend runs for a new yard, making his debut for Olly Murphy with Sean Levey booked. He arrives with solid form from last season, including a good third in the Mallard at Doncaster, and should be competitive if he takes to the all-weather. George Scott’s Prydwen is on the shortlist but needs to improve on a lesser effort in December.
7.00 Newcastle — SBK: No Casino Just Sports Handicap
The Caltonian and Apache Outlaw top the market for this sprint. The Caltonian scored over six furlongs at Newcastle last month, beating Pocklington by three-quarters of a length; Paul Mulrennan takes the ride and the progressive form of the runner-up boosts his claims.
Apache Outlaw, trained by Adrian Keatley, is a four-time all-weather winner who was third at Dundalk last time and could be sharpened by first-time cheekpieces. Elegant Erin, who finished last season with an encouraging fourth in Listed company at Ascot, completes the short list.
