Reviving a Legend: The JAS Motorsport Tensei Honda NSX

Excitement is in the air as JAS Motorsport introduces the Tensei, a stunning restomod of the legendary Honda NSX. This eagerly awaited vehicle promises to carry on the enduring legacy of one of the most cherished sports cars in automotive history.

The Legacy of the Honda NSX

First launched in 1990, after extensive development that spanned over five years, the NSX was Honda's ambitious effort to compete with Europe's elite sports cars. Marketed as the Acura NSX in North America, this pioneering model featured an all-aluminum body paired with a powerful V-Tech V-6 engine, producing nearly 300 horsepower. Its unique ability to serve as a high-performance driver while being practical for daily use is part of what has made it a classic among car enthusiasts.

Introducing the Tensei

The name “Tensei,” translating to “rebirth” in Japanese, signifies a new chapter for the NSX, elevating it to supercar distinction. To create this beauty, each donor NSX is meticulously disassembled and rebuilt, adorned with lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork. While the design retains the essence of the original, the Pininfarina-crafted exterior smooths out sharper edges, enhancing aerodynamics and emphasizing signature elements such as the pop-up headlights and integrated rear wing.

Power and Performance Upgrades

JAS Motorsport is no stranger to the NSX, having collaborated with Honda since the late 1990s. Though this project operates independently from Honda, they have engaged U.K.-based Judd Power for engine enhancements. The revamped power unit utilizes the original Honda block and now boasts a redesigned crankshaft, lightweight cylinder heads, and titanium valves, generating 414 horsepower and 305 ft-lbs of torque. This impressive output is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Remarkably, the Tensei weighs in at just 2,756 pounds—approximately 300 pounds lighter than its forebear.

Exclusive Production and Pricing

JAS Motorsport plans to produce only 35 units of the Tensei, making it a rare collector's item. The entry price starts at 880,000 euros, translating to around $985,000. However, interested buyers should be aware that this price does not cover the cost of the donor car, potentially elevating the total investment.

For automotive aficionados seeking a unique blend of nostalgia and modern engineering, the JAS Motorsport Tensei is poised to be a remarkable addition to the supercar landscape.
