Krzysztof Ratajski came from behind to beat Jermaine Wattimena 8-6 in a dramatic final of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen.
Ratajski stormed into a 4-1 lead early, only for Wattimena to win five legs in a row and lead 6-4. The Pole responded with a strong comeback to take four of the last four legs and secure his first title of 2026 and his third European Tour victory overall.
The win extended Ratajski's perfect record in ProTour finals. On his way to the title he also eliminated the reigning champion, Nathan Aspinall, and he arrives at the summer's big events as the new world No 20.
Ratajski, a 2021 World Matchplay semi-finalist, said he was delighted and a little surprised by the triumph. He described the match as close, praised Wattimena's performance and said he will give his best at the Betfred World Matchplay in Blackpool.
Wattimena also celebrated what he called a 'magic day' after reaching his first European Tour semi-final and final. The Dutch player acknowledged missed chances but conceded Ratajski was the better player on the day.
