Mitchell Lawrie Aims for Darts Stardom Against Luke Littler
Teen darting sensation Mitchell Lawrie shares his ambitions for the £501,000 prize against Luke Littler.
Mitchell Lawrie, a rising star in the world of darts, is gearing up for an exciting face-off against Luke Littler, as he competes for a staggering prize of £501,000. This unique opportunity, featured in Netflix's show 'Beat Luke Littler,' has opened doors for him to not only prove his skills but also potentially change his family's life.
Turning Dreams into Reality
The 15-year-old from Renfrew has set his sights on a big dream, planning to buy his family a house should he win. In a recent chat with GIVEMESPORT, he expressed how pivotal this moment is for him and his family.
“My mum and dad’s house, definitely,” he stated when asked what he would do with his winnings. “A big house for all of us would be the first step. Beyond that, I’m not sure yet.”
His family is equally enthusiastic about this opportunity, ready to witness him tackle this monumental challenge.
Confidence and Strategy
Lawrie, who still balances school with his darting ambitions, believes that having financial stability, particularly through home ownership, would alleviate stress and help focus on his professional career. “Many players struggle with their game because they have worries about paying their mortgages,” he explained. “Securing a home free of mortgage burdens would let me focus entirely on my darts.”
For the competition, he had to achieve a score of 501 in 24 darts or fewer during initial auditions, a feat he accomplished, earning him a shot at facing Jensen’s top player, Littler. When asked about his expectations, Lawrie was unequivocal: “Absolutely, I’m aiming to win. It’s just one leg, and anyone can take it.”
He expressed confidence in his abilities: “I believe I have everything: confidence, skill, and resilience. The pressure of having cameras around won’t faze me because I’m good at managing it.”
Forging His Own Path
Although some see parallels between him and Littler, Lawrie is keen to carve out his own identity. “Comparisons can be flattering, but I’m on my own journey,” he remarked. “Littler is currently the best, and while it’s great to be compared to him, my focus is on being Mitchell Lawrie.”
Having reached a senior world final at just 15, Lawrie is no stranger to high-pressure situations. His sights are set not only on this match but also on becoming a world champion and the top-ranked player.
“If the chance to win arises, I'll let the dart fly when the time feels right,” he asserted, confidence radiating from his words.
In a light-hearted exchange about his opponent’s preparation, Lawrie joked, “He should get plenty of rest… or maybe not! I hope he has a terrible night’s sleep!”
