Leica has teamed up with Formula 1 to introduce an exciting new camera that embodies the spirit of motorsport, the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition. This unique model kicks off a licensing venture between these two iconic brands, merging Leica's camera technology with the dynamic aesthetics of Formula 1 racing.

Design Inspired by Racing

This special edition camera is based on Leica's existing Q3 43 model and showcases a design reminiscent of the high-speed world of motorsports. Sporting a matte black finish, it features a luxurious non-slip Microvelour covering, mimicking the texture found on a Formula 1 steering wheel. Furthermore, the camera's handgrip, thumb rest, and soft-release shutter button are elegantly crafted from genuine carbon fiber—a material synonymous with high-performance vehicles.

Premium Features and Unique Touches

All carbon fiber elements are manufactured and rigorously tested in Germany. The exposed weave adds a unique texture and depth to the camera's sleek black body. Bright red accents on the shutter release and function button mirror the vibrant color schemes of racing controls. Additionally, the Formula 1 branding is prominently placed on the top plate and lens cap, and the package includes a custom rope strap and luxurious packaging highlighted by a striking red inlay.

The incorporation of a wireless-charging handgrip enhances the camera's modern appeal and practicality. This feature, alongside the matching thumb rest and soft-release button, contributes to a cohesive design, enhancing the camera's tactile experience while ensuring it maintains its core photographic performance.

Exceptional Photography Performance

Underneath its exclusive exterior, the Leica Q3 43 retains its robust photographic capabilities, including a 60-megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS sensor and a fixed Leica APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens. This combination offers photographers a naturally appealing perspective, ideal for street photography, portraiture, travel shots, and capturing the essence of a race weekend. Additionally, Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology enables shooting at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels, providing versatile options for various photographic needs.

The camera is not just for motorsport fans; it features a hybrid autofocus system and comprehensive video recording options, making it suitable for anyone who enjoys storytelling through photography.

Exclusive Software Integration

An exciting addition to this special edition is the Formula 1 Leica Look, designed specifically for this camera. Photographers can access this unique shooting profile through the Leica FOTOS app, allowing for enhanced contrast and vivid color saturation that reflects the thrilling imagery of racing environments. This feature lets users preview the effect in real-time while shooting, rather than relying solely on post-processing edits. The app also allows seamless transfer of images and videos to mobile devices.

Event Launch and Availability

The unveiling of the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition took place at a special event at the Leica Store and Leica Gallery in Los Angeles. The event featured Formula 1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button, as well as an exhibit showcasing 26 stunning motorsport photographs by photographer Callo Albanese.

Starting from October 21, 2026, the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition will be available for purchase through Leica stores, the Leica online shop, and select specialist retailers, with a retail price of $9,950.
