Kimi Antonelli is rewriting the record books! The talented 20-year-old driver made history on November 1, 2026, by becoming the youngest Formula 1 World Champion during the Mexico Grand Prix.

A Historic Finish

Antonelli secured his championship title with a remarkable third-place finish, granting him sufficient points to clinch the coveted crown. Max Verstappen dominated the race, crossing the finish line first, followed by Lewis Hamilton in second place.

Surpassing a Legend

This victory allowed Antonelli to break Sebastian Vettel's long-held record as the youngest champion. Vettel won his title at 23 years and 133 days, while Antonelli achieved his championship at just 20 years and 68 days old. Furthermore, this win marks the first time an Italian has held the title since Alberto Ascari in 1953.

Emotional Celebration

The emotional weight of the moment was evident as Antonelli celebrated with his family. In a tender video shared on F1's Instagram, he can be seen running toward his parents, Marco Antonelli and Veronica Pomaro, with tears of joy streaming down his face. His younger sister, Maggie, was also there to share in the excitement.

“It’s a moment that means so much. It’s a day I will remember forever. Thank you to my team, my family, my friends, and all the supporters of me and the sport. I am just so grateful,” Antonelli expressed after the race.

A Strong Season

With an impressive lead of 123 points before the race and only needing two points to claim the title, Antonelli had a strong season. A top-nine finish would have secured his championship automatically, lessening the pressure on him during the Mexico Grand Prix.

Even though he had been recovering from an illness leading up to the event, Antonelli showed remarkable resilience, prioritizing his health in the days before the race.

What’s Next?

The next event on the Formula 1 calendar is the São Paulo Grand Prix at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, taking place from November 6 to November 8, 2026. As the newly crowned champion, all eyes will be on Antonelli as he continues his journey in the sport.
