iPhone Duo Preorders Face Delays: Here’s What to Do

Excitement is building for the new iPhone Duo, but potential buyers may be in for a lengthy wait. Apple has just announced shipping delays that affect all preorders, meaning you'll need to act fast to find the best options.

Shipping Estimates Extended

As of the latest updates, anyone looking to preorder the iPhone Duo will see estimated shipping dates stretching all the way to January 25 of next year. This is over three months from now and applies uniformly across the various configurations, including color, storage capacity, and carrier options.

Preorders commenced early in the morning today at 5 AM PT/8 AM ET. However, in just half an hour, Apple’s online store was already inundated, leading to immediate delays spanning all configurations of the iPhone Duo.

Record Wait Times for Apple

This shipping wait time marks a new record for Apple. Previously, significant delays have been observed, but nothing quite like the current situation. In 2016, the iPhone 7 Plus had delays of about two months. The iPhone X in 2017 faced wait times of roughly five to six weeks, while iPhone Pro models in 2013 experienced delays totaling around a month and a half.

According to industry expert Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, several factors are contributing to this unprecedented delay. He notes that the initial demand for the Duo may be higher than Apple predicted, coupled with significant supply issues. This situation is compounded because the iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone, which presents unique production challenges that are proving difficult to overcome.

Production Challenges

Gurman highlights that Apple has been facing “extraordinary supply chain constraints” that were worse than anticipated earlier in the year. Manufacturing certain components essential to the Duo has encountered high failure rates. These production hurdles have severely limited the output of the iPhone Duo.

Although Apple has managed to prepare a limited stock for the upcoming release, the availability will be scarce. Gurman advises that anyone keen on getting this innovative device should plan ahead.

Alternative Preorder Options

If you weren't among the first to place a preorder with Apple, there are still other avenues you can explore to secure your iPhone Duo.

  • Carrier Preorders: AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are all offering their own preorder options. Shipping timelines are showing shorter waits compared to Apple's estimates:
    • AT&T: November 9 to December 1.
    • Verizon: November 6 to December 4.
    • T-Mobile: October 23 to November 3.
  • Retail Options: Stores such as Best Buy are also accepting preorders with similar shipping schedules as the carriers.

In-Store Availability

If immediate possession of your iPhone Duo is a priority, consider visiting local Apple or carrier stores on the release day, October 23. Apple generally allocates a portion of its stock for in-store sales, allowing buyers the chance to snag one directly.

Getting to the store early is crucial; demand will likely be high, and stocks may not last long. Whether at the Apple Store or your carrier's outlet, positioning yourself at the front of the line can greatly improve your chances of securing the model you want.

Exploring Other Options

If you can't bear the wait for the iPhone Duo, you might explore other models such as the iPhone 18 Pro. Currently available for order on Apple's site, this device should arrive by the end of the month.

Checking with local retailers for available stock might also yield results if you are looking for alternatives.

With stocks running low, whether you opt for the iPhone Duo or the iPhone 18 Pro, swift action will be paramount. Don't delay, as these models are likely to go fast!
