Gloucestershire Cricket Extends Contract for Promising Bowler Aman Rao
Aman Rao has signed a contract extension with Gloucestershire Cricket, ensuring his stay until 2027 after a breakout season.
Gloucestershire Cricket has made a significant move by extending the contract of young fast bowler Aman Rao for another season. The extension sees Rao remaining with the team until the conclusion of the 2027 season, signaling the club's commitment to nurturing his burgeoning talent.
A Bright Future Ahead
At just 22 years old, Rao has already showcased his skills and potential during his initial rookie season at Gloucestershire, where he joined before the 2026 campaign. His development has caught the attention of the coaching staff, which has led to his contract renewal.
Originally hailing from Sydney, Australia, Rao's cricketing journey began in Somerset, where he honed his skills. He later played for Loughborough UCCE and represented the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) Second XI, where his impressive performances earned him a professional contract with Gloucestershire.
Overcoming Challenges
Though Rao faced a setback due to a back injury earlier this season, his ability to bounce back has been commendable. Despite the challenges he encountered, he has shown remarkable improvement and has been given the chance to refine his skills at Seat Unique Stadium.
Reflecting on his new contract, Rao expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m really pleased to have signed an extension with Gloucestershire CCC. It’s such a special place and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far. I believe it’s the right place for me to continue developing my skills and improving as a player.”
He further acknowledged the support he has received, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful to all the supporters and everyone at the club for their continued backing, as well as my family for their unwavering support along the way. I’m thrilled to see what next year has in store for us as a club and can’t wait to get going.”
Faith in a Rising Star
Jon Lewis, Gloucestershire's director of cricket, commended Rao's work ethic and potential. He remarked on Rao's recovery: “He has come back from a back injury at the start of the year and shown that he’s got all the attributes of a really promising young fast bowler. We feel that by giving him an extra year, it gives him the opportunity to develop even further.”
Lewis highlighted the club's aspirations for Rao, mentioning: “We’d love for him to become a really consistent fast bowler for us, and we see that there’s a lot of talent and a lot of ability. With some hard work around his bowling and some really good support around that, then we feel that there’s a really strong first-class cricketer in there.”
As Rao prepares for the 2027 season, he will continue to benefit from the guidance of the experienced players and coaching staff at Gloucestershire, promising an exciting future for both him and the club.
