Fitzpatrick Clinches DP World Tour Title Over McIlroy

Sunday 16 November 2025, 14:43 UK — Matt Fitzpatrick won the DP World Tour Championship after defeating Rory McIlroy on the first play-off hole at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

McIlroy had staged a late comeback to force extra time, battling back over the closing holes to level the lead and extend the contest. But the play-off proved costly for the Northern Irishman, who suffered a nightmare hole as Fitzpatrick kept his nerve.

Fitzpatrick produced the decisive putt to end the match, settling the title in dramatic fashion in front of the Dubai crowd. The victory delivered a hard-fought finish to the season, with Fitzpatrick's composed performance under pressure earning him the champion's prize.

Both players showed glimpses of brilliance during the week, but it was Fitzpatrick who took the moment when it mattered most, sealing the DP World Tour Championship at one of the tour's most high-profile venues.
