A nostalgic photo from 2013 has surfaced online, illustrating NRL talent Bradman Best's long-standing dream of representing Australia in rugby league. Taken by his former teacher, Tanya Doorn, the image features a young Best proudly displaying a chalkboard that reads, "Play Rugby League for Australia." Now 25, Best is set to make his debut for the Kangaroos against Fiji in Brisbane this Sunday.

A Dream Come True

For Bradman Best, this moment is immensely significant. He shared his excitement, stating, "It means everything to me. Ever since I was a child, I've dreamed of this … it's pretty special." Best's journey from a hopeful student to a professional athlete has been remarkable.

An Early Start

Ms. Doorn, who continues to teach at St. John the Baptist school in Woy Woy, expressed no surprise at Best’s achievements. "You could see Bradman had the potential to be great," she remarked. "He was humble and grounded, not one to boast about his talents."

Best began his rugby league career with the Woy Woy Roosters before being signed by the Newcastle Knights, where he debuted in the NRL in 2019. Looking back on his school days, he admitted that he struggled academically. “I hated school and focused all my efforts on rugby league,” he confessed.

Recognizing Talent Early

Clare Gallagher, Best's year 2 teacher, recognized his athletic gifts at a young age. "He showed exceptional speed in the 100 meters," she recalled. "It was clear that sporting talent was his calling. He dedicated himself to his abilities."

Growing up, Best found inspiration in his father's footsteps. Roger Best played for Manly's lower grades before moving to the London Broncos in the Super League. This familial legacy fueled Bradman's aspirations as a young athlete.

Inspiring the Next Generation

As he prepares for his moment on the national stage, Best is eager to inspire the students at his former school to pursue their own goals. "I always tell young kids, 'Dream big,'" he emphasized. "Aspire to be whatever you want to be and chase those aspirations." His story serves as a motivational beacon for them.

Ms. Gallagher noted the impact of Best's success on her students, stating, "Seeing someone from our school achieving such heights makes them believe they can too. Many of them harbor ambitious dreams."

With a blend of perseverance and support, Bradman Best exemplifies that following one’s dreams can lead to remarkable outcomes. As he dons the green and gold, he not only fulfills his childhood dream but also sets a powerful example for future generations to strive for their ambitions.
