Excitement is building for the 2027 HSBC SVNS 2 tournaments, as World Rugby has officially revealed the host cities and dates for the highly anticipated events. Nairobi, Montevideo, and São Paulo will welcome teams in January and February, offering rugby fans thrilling action and competition.

Nairobi Kicks Off the Series

The Talanta Sports Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, is set to host the tournament’s opening leg on January 23-24. With a capacity of 60,000, this modern venue is still fresh on the scene, making it an exciting location for the kickoff. Its first major event will be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, but rugby fans are eager for a taste of sevens rugby here first.

Consistent Venues in Uruguay and Brazil

Following Nairobi, the tournament will move on to Montevideo, Uruguay. The Estadio Charrúa will host the matches on February 20-21, retaining its role as a staple for the competition. Likewise, São Paulo’s Nicolau Alayon Stadium will welcome teams on February 27-28, maintaining the tradition of hosting rugby events in this vibrant Brazilian city.

Understanding HSBC SVNS 2's Importance

HSBC SVNS 2 is more than just an event; it’s a vital opportunity for twelve teams—six men’s and six women’s—to vie for places in the prestigious HSBC SVNS World Championship. The top four finishers from each gender will qualify for these championship tournaments, with aspirations of securing a top-eight finish to claim a spot in the elite HSBC SVNS Series.

Pathway to the Olympics

World Rugby has also laid out the qualification pathway for the upcoming LA28 Olympics. The top four men’s and women’s teams in the 2026 HSBC SVNS World Championship will automatically qualify for the Olympics. In addition, six teams from each category will secure spots through regional qualifiers, while an additional men’s and women’s team can earn their place via the Olympic Repechage scheduled for June 2028.
