2027 Corporate Golf League: A Dramatic Finale Awaits at Laguna National

Final Showdown at Laguna National

The much-anticipated finale of the 2027 The Straits Times & Business Times Corporate Golf League is set to take place on May 14 at the renowned Classic course of Laguna National. This venue is infamous for its challenging course, which could lead to unexpected outcomes as teams compete for the championship.

Reflecting on Last Year’s Results

Last year, the standings remained intact through the last round with Team Boss, Orchid Country Club, and Singapore Global Trust finishing in the top three positions, reflecting a predictable outcome. Unlike the previous year, where the results were fairly straightforward, this year’s event could feature a shake-up, especially with the difficult layout of the Classic course.

Exciting Season Ahead

This season's league involves prestigious venues across Singapore, starting with the Serapong course at Sentosa Golf Club on March 12, and includes stops at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines course on March 25, Singapore Island Country Club’s Island course on April 9, and Orchid Country Club on April 23, before culminating at Laguna National.

While the event is still months away, five companies have formally registered and begun preparations for their teams. More organizations are expected to join, actively recruiting players for the competition.

Embracing Innovation in Golf

Henry Tan, the founder of CLA Global TS, has already made his entry, looking forward to participating while the firm shifts its focus towards artificial intelligence. Tan likens the challenges faced on the golf course to those in business, underscoring the importance of adaptability in both arenas. As he puts it, making the right business choices is parallel to navigating the ups and downs of a golf round.

Tan also plans to enhance his team's abilities by incorporating new golfers. They are considering a training camp slated for either Bintan or Batam to prepare adequately.

Strong Contenders in the Field

Orion Orthopaedics, formerly competitors in the Social category, is stepping up their game this year by entering the more competitive section. Their captain, Mizan Marican, is excited about the challenge of forming a robust team to compete.

The defending champions, Team Boss, are already hosting their annual Boss Golf Day at the New course of Singapore Island Country Club to fine-tune their selections. Team captain Andre Huber faces the challenge of choosing from a talented roster, as their players exhibited strong performances at this event.

Orchid Country Club is also in the mix as they aim to reclaim the title, armed with a team of skilled players who participate actively in the Singapore Golf Association League.

A Community Spirit in Golf

Despite the competitive nature of the league, many teams appreciate the Social category, which allows for relaxations and client engagement. Winfred Tan, a veteran of the league since its inception in 2011, emphasizes the importance of networking and camaraderie among corporate participants, making the event not just a competition but also an opportunity for social connections.

Looking Forward to a Memorable Season

Murali Subramaniam, managing editor of The Straits Times, noted the growing enthusiasm since the league's return after the pandemic in 2023. With significant support from main sponsor Singapore Pools, interest has surged, and teams are buzzing with excitement for what lies ahead in 2027.
