Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is said to be interested in bringing José Mourinho back to the Bernabéu, but Sky Sports News reports there has been no formal approach to the Portuguese coach.
Pérez is at the forefront of the search for a new first-team boss. Álvaro Arbeloa, who took charge after Xabi Alonso in January, is widely expected to be replaced when the season ends. Pérez is reportedly close to Mourinho and views a reunion favourably—Mourinho previously led Real Madrid to a LaLiga title, compiling a then-record 100 points.
Despite the speculation, Benfica’s head coach has had no official contact from Madrid. Mourinho, however, is not rushing into any decision and remains concentrated on his current tasks at Benfica.
Benfica sit seven points behind city rivals Porto. With three league games remaining, Benfica could still secure second place with three wins, finishing ahead of Sporting and guaranteeing a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Mourinho is aware of links to several big-club vacancies and the Portugal national team, but his immediate focus is on Benfica’s campaign. His contract at the Portuguese club runs until summer 2027 and includes a clause allowing either side to part ways at the end of this season.
