Nelly Korda fired a seven-under 63 on Friday to surge into contention at the LPGA’s The Annika, while Kai Trump — President Donald Trump’s granddaughter — failed to make the cut and finished last.
Korda sits at six under and will return for the third round three strokes behind co-leaders Grace Kim and Linn Grant, who posted rounds of 66 and 63 respectively. England’s Charley Hull remains in the mix at five under.
Korda, the defending champion who became the first player in 13 years to win seven times in a season last year, is still seeking her first victory of the current campaign.
Trump improved by eight strokes from round one to round two, following an opening 83 with a 75 on Friday. Playing on a sponsor exemption as a high school senior, she finished the tournament at 18 over par and missed the cut.
“For the first day I was definitely really nervous. I think the nerves just got to me,” she said. “When I went out there today, I felt very calm and peaceful, to be honest with you. That’s why I played better. I did everything I could possibly have done for this tournament. So, I think if you prepare right, the nerves can… they’re always going to be there, right? They can be a little softened. So, I would just say that.”
The top 60 players in the Race to CME Globe will qualify for next week’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, where every qualifier will be eligible for the $2 million top prize.
Broadcast coverage of The Annika continues Saturday on Sky Sports Golf, with DP World Tour Championship action also airing on Sky Sports.
