Two weeks after the previous round, Formula 1 moves on to the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, with the championship fight still hot and form lines continuing to shift.
Media day opened with celebration for 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli after his first Grand Prix win in Shanghai. A Sprint collision and a sluggish opening in the race didn’t stop him: he recovered, settled his pace and pulled away to secure a convincing victory.
The result tightens the standings — just four points separate Antonelli and his Mercedes team-mate George Russell — putting the young driver firmly in early title contention. Whether Antonelli and Mercedes can sustain that form across an entire season remains an open question.
Ferrari remain the primary threat to Mercedes’ run of results. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have both demonstrated ruthless racecraft, often producing intense battles when they lock horns, and the big question is whether rivals can find a way to interrupt Mercedes’ momentum.
Off the track there is plenty to watch as well: Jonathan Wheatley has left Audi with immediate effect, Honda are concentrating on delivering strong performance for their home event while supporting Aston Martin, and several teams will debut special liveries at Suzuka.
