Gloucester 26-15 Harlequins
Gloucester secured their first Premiership victory of the season at the sixth attempt, beating Harlequins 26-15 at Kingsholm. Full-back Ben Redshaw was the standout, finishing with two tries, while flanker Lewis Ludlow and wing Ollie Thorley also crossed for George Skivington’s side. Fly-half Ross Byrne added three conversions to complete the scoring.
Harlequins, whose England fly-half Marcus Smith struggled to find fluency, trailed by only two at the break but could not build on the scores from wing Cadan Murley and captain Alex Dombrandt. Smith contributed a conversion and a penalty, but Quins offered only sporadic glimpses of their usual attacking threat and second-half inaccuracies allowed Gloucester to pull away without ever needing to peak.
The visitors struck first when Murley finished a precise pass after 10 minutes, but Redshaw answered almost immediately with a solo effort, weaving past defenders before Byrne added the conversion. Harlequins regrouped despite losing prop Titi Lamositele, and Dombrandt marked his 50th Premiership try with a score that Smith converted to give Quins a 12-7 advantage.
Gloucester’s handling errors stalled them until a misplaced kick from Rodrigo Isgro presented Ludlow with a try on his 250th appearance, Byrne’s boot nudging Gloucester into a 14-12 half-time lead. On the hour Redshaw struck again and Byrne’s conversion stretched the margin. Smith reduced the deficit with a penalty, but Thorley’s finish in the corner restored Gloucester’s control and they held on to deny Harlequins a losing bonus point as their Premiership campaign finally sparked into life.
Bristol Bears 46-12 Northampton Saints
Northampton’s unbeaten start to the season was halted emphatically as Bristol Bears ran out 46-12 victors at Ashton Gate. Saints were reduced to 14 men early on when Edoardo Todaro was sent off for a dangerous aerial challenge on Sam Worsley, and Bristol capitalised by running in six tries.
Scrum-half Kieran Marmion scored twice, with Tom Jordan, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Aidan Boshoff and Luka Ivanishvili also crossing the whitewash. Worsley kicked five conversions and two penalties. Northampton’s replies came from JJ van der Mescht and Tom Litchfield, with Fin Smith converting one of those scores.
Todaro’s dismissal handed Bristol early momentum. Marmion darted over from a quick tap penalty, Jordan touched down from a sharp angle, and Marmion’s second came after a powerful burst and slick passing. Despite losing Jack Bates to injury (replaced by Louis Rees‑Zammit), Bristol maintained pressure; a key tackle from Van Rensburg launched Ravouvou on a 45-metre run to score, and Boshoff’s try completed a dominant 35-0 half-time advantage.
Northampton showed some fight after the break when Van der Mescht crossed, but Worsley’s penalty kept the hosts comfortably ahead. Litchfield grabbed a second Saints try, yet further points from Worsley and a driving line-out finish by Ivanishvili ensured Bristol’s comprehensive win and ended Northampton’s perfect start to the campaign.
