Leigh continued their strong run in the Betfred Super League with a 28-12 win over Warrington at Leigh Sports Village, closing in on a top-four spot.
The Leopards made a flying start as David Armstrong crossed in the corner and Lachlan Lam finished a sweeping counter-attack to score under the posts, giving the hosts an early advantage. Warrington reduced the gap with a penalty and a Toafofoa Sipley score, but Innes Senior’s try before half-time left Leigh 16-6 ahead at the break.
The second half saw Leigh extend their lead despite disciplinary setbacks: Josh Charnley was sin-binned for a high tackle and Warrington’s Leon Hayes also received a yellow for a dangerous challenge. Joe Ofahengaue powered over early in the half and Adam Cook’s goal-kicking (conversions and a penalty) pushed Leigh further clear. Umyla Hanley added another try on the hour, while Albert Hopoate’s late score for Warrington proved only a consolation.
A late Leigh try by Innes Senior was ruled out for a forward pass, but the hosts held on to keep the win and maintain momentum towards the top four. The result leaves Leigh level on 26 points with Warrington, who have played one fewer game.
Leopards head coach Adrian Lam praised his side’s resilience, noting they coped well with in-game changes and injuries. He also confirmed Frankie Halton has a suspected torn pectoral that could rule him out for the season. Warrington boss Sam Burgess felt his side deserved more from a tight contest, saying the scoreline perhaps didn’t reflect how close the match was.
Huddersfield 24-22 York — Tuimoala Lolohea inspired a nervy away victory as Huddersfield ended a 12-game wait for a Super League win at the LNER Community Stadium. The game began tightly, with an early York try by David Nofoaluma and several scores disallowed on review.
Huddersfield replied through Lewis Jagger and then benefited from Lolohea’s alert play in the second half when he chased down his own kick to score. Lolohea also created a try for Connor Wrench and George Flanagan’s kicking helped extend the lead to 24-10 after a sniping score from Zac Woolford. York staged a late fightback with tries from Jordan Thompson and Tom Inman, but their comeback fell just short as Huddersfield held on 24-22 to secure a long-awaited victory.
Catalans 18-16 Toulouse — Catalans Dragons ended a four-match losing run with a gritty derby win in adverse, rain-soaked conditions at Stade Ernest-Wallon. Tommy Makinson scored twice, capitalising on good delivery from Toby Sexton, while Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet’s kicking (conversions and a penalty) helped keep Catalans in front. Toulouse struck back through tries and late pressure, including a last-gasp converted try, but Catalans held on for an 18-16 win.
