Hull KR head coach Willie Peters says nothing matches the intensity of the Hull derby between the Robins and Hull FC.
The Good Friday clash at Hull KR will be the 250th meeting between the two sides, a rivalry that stretches back to 1899 when the first fixture was played on Robins’ turf and Hull KR took the win.
In Super League play alone the rivals have met 50 times, with Hull KR winning 26 and Hull FC 24.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast, Peters—who has played and coached in major derbies in both hemispheres—insisted the local rivalry tops them all. “Derby week is huge. It is the 250th derby and we know what we are going to get, they know what they are going to get,” he said. “It is going to be an electric atmosphere here. There is no bigger derby.”
Peters pointed to his experience in other storied clashes—St Helens vs Wigan, South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Sydney Roosters, and St George vs Cronulla—but remained clear about his view: “This is the biggest. No matter where you sit on the table, regardless of where we sit, it is always a tasty game and it is always an enjoyable week. I am really looking forward to it.”
The rivalry draws attention beyond club circles—on The Bench, hosts Jenna Brooks, Hull KR’s Jez and Hull FC’s Davy Litten even discussed which family members back which side when cousins face off.
