All 10 Formula 1 teams have agreed a multi-year extension to continue sponsoring an F1 Academy car livery and a driver in the all-female series. The arrangement, first introduced in F1 Academy’s second season in 2024, has each F1 outfit selecting a series driver and adapting the F1 Academy car to reflect the team’s branding.
The renewed deal will run over several years and will also bring 2026 F1 entrant Cadillac into the programme as a grid sponsor from 2027. F1 Academy managing director Susie Wolff welcomed the commitment, saying the long-term backing from every current F1 team — plus Cadillac’s addition — underlines the series’ role as a sustainable pathway for female drivers, not just a one-season showcase.
F1 Academy has also signalled a change to its participation rules for 2027. Under updated regulations, the previous two-season cap on series participation can be relaxed in exceptional cases: drivers who have already completed two seasons may be granted an exemption to race a third year if their performance suggests further development would be beneficial. The intent is to allow a more tailored approach to talent development, giving high-potential drivers extra time to grow when a third season is judged to support their progression.
The 2025 F1 Academy title fight will be decided at the Las Vegas finale next weekend, where Mercedes-backed Doriane Pin leads Ferrari-backed Maya Weug by nine points. Wolff said the series continues to draw strong talent from karting and grassroots motorsport, and that the option of an extra season for standout drivers — along with focused, individual development — will help drivers fully realise their potential while keeping the grid stocked with the best emerging female talent.
The decisive rounds in both Formula 1 and F1 Academy take place around the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 21–23, with coverage live on Sky Sports F1.
