Tom Johnstone scored two second-half tries as Wakefield Trinity overturned an early deficit to beat York Knights 26-14 at the LNER Community Stadium.
York opened the scoring when Sam Wood crossed in the 15th minute. The first half produced four tries in total, with the lead changing hands twice before the break. Ben Jones-Bishop and Caleb Hamlin-Uele traded touchdowns and Oliver Pratt touched down for the first of his two tries. With Max Jowitt landing both conversions, Trinity held a 12-10 advantage at half-time.
Wakefield dominated after the interval. Johnstone crossed twice during a 17-minute spell, with a Nikau Williams try sandwiched between his efforts, and Pratt rounded off the scoring with a late finish to seal the win. The victory was Wakefield’s fourth from six Super League matches and their third straight, lifting them to third in the table.
The result came on the same day Wakefield confirmed the signing of former NRL star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on a two-year deal. York, who have two wins from six outings, sit fourth from bottom and will be frustrated by their second-half fade.
