York will kick off their first Super League campaign in the modern era against reigning champions Hull KR on Thursday February 12 (8pm), with the match shown live and exclusively on Sky Sports. That opening weekend also features a Friday night blockbuster between Warrington Wolves and St Helens (February 13, 8pm), also live on Sky Sports.
The top flight has grown to 14 clubs following this summer’s IMG gradings and panel decisions. Promoted sides for 2026 are Bradford Bulls, Toulouse Olympique and York Knights. York enjoyed an outstanding 2025 under Mark Applegarth — including a 20-game winning run at one stage, 1895 Cup success and finishing top of the second tier — and return to the elite for the first time since 1986.
Hull KR begin 2026 as Betfred Super League champions after completing a memorable 2025 treble: they beat Wigan Warriors 24-6 in the Grand Final and also claimed the Challenge Cup and the League Leaders’ Shield.
