3.15 Lingfield — Scorpio Rising makes handicap debut
Scorpio Rising steps into handicap company for the first time for Sean Bowen and Olly Murphy in the Download The At The Races App Handicap Hurdle at Lingfield. The lightly raced five-year-old gained his maiden hurdle success at Perth last time and arrives as an intriguing handicap newcomer. Ski Lodge, also a handicap debutant, returns after a break since December and, having opened his hurdles account at the second attempt, deserves respect if he has improved over the break. Bluegrass is inconsistent for Stuart Edmunds but would be competitive if he can reproduce the form of his penultimate run.
11.35 Chantilly — Al Zanati heads a small Group 3 field
Al Zanati tops a field of six for the Group Three Prix Thomas Bryon, the feature at Chantilly. Charlie Appleby saddles Al Zanati and Pacifica Pier; Al Zanati brings the strongest form, notably from his Autumn Stakes performance on just his second start, and could add his name to a roll of honour that includes recent winners such as Maranoa Charlie, Alcantor and Continuous. Bourbon Blues (Brian Meehan) has shown only limited success so far, while Space Waltz looks the pick of the home representatives after finishing second in a Listed race at Chantilly last month.
4.15 Newcastle — The Tunguska Event bids to follow up
The Tunguska Event, a course-and-distance winner, tackles a nine-pound rise in the Use Safer Gambling Tools At BetMGM Nursery Selling Handicap at Newcastle. Trained by John and Sean Quinn, he led throughout when easing down to win last time and may still have improvement to offer off his new mark. Mister Moet is the only other winner in the line-up, having prevailed at Carlisle on his third start; a switch to Scott Dixon’s yard could give him a boost.
