Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich to progress to the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30, winning the tie 6-5 on aggregate.
Ousmane Dembélé put PSG ahead after just three minutes, crashing in a dangerous cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. After that early strike PSG largely controlled the match, shutting down Bayern’s usual attacking threat. Bayern produced few clear openings: Michael Olise curled over in the first half and Manuel Neuer was rarely forced into action until late. Harry Kane’s 94th-minute left-foot finish earned Bayern a stoppage-time consolation but arrived too late to prevent PSG advancing.
The tie featured two contentious handball incidents that angered Bayern boss Vincent Kompany. In the first half Bayern felt Nuno Mendes should have been sent off for a deliberate handball while already booked, but the referee instead gave a foul for a separate handball by Konrad Laimer. Later Joao Neves appeared to handle the ball in the box after Vitinha’s clearance, but the officials applied the rule that an inadvertent touch after a team-mate’s kick cannot be penalised.
PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made a couple of comfortable second-half saves from Olise and Luis Díaz. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue both tested Manuel Neuer earlier, and substitute Bradley Barcola came close late on, but Bayern’s push only produced Kane’s late goal.
Bayern’s hopes of adding a treble to their season are over after a run in which they had scored at least three in each of their previous six home matches. PSG now head to Budapest on May 30 as strong contenders for the trophy.
