British No.1 Jack Draper has withdrawn from the Victorian Plumbing UTS London Grand Final, scheduled for December 5-7 at the Copper Box Arena, further delaying his return from an arm injury. Draper had hoped to play on home soil after pulling out of the US Open, but announced on Monday that he is still not ready to compete and has been advised to rest. He expressed regret for letting fans down and said he wants to return stronger.
Draper, the 2023 UTS London Grand Final champion, was diagnosed with bone bruising after his second-round Wimbledon defeat to Marin Cilic and later acknowledged that he came back too soon by playing the US Open. He subsequently shut down the remainder of his ranking-season schedule, which meant he could not defend points from last year’s Vienna Open.
France’s Ugo Humbert will replace Draper in Group B. Group B now features Humbert alongside Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud, Francisco Cerundolo and David Goffin. Group A is led by last year’s UTS London winner Alex de Minaur, joined by Andrey Rublev, Tomas Machac and Adrian Mannarino.
UTS format notes: all eight players will be in action across December 5 and 6, with both semi-finals and the final played on December 7.
