Italy secured a third consecutive Davis Cup title after defeating Spain in the final in Bologna. Both teams reached the decider without their leading stars, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but Italy wrapped up the trophy on Sunday when Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli won their singles matches.
Berrettini opened the day with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Pablo Carreño Busta, firing 13 aces and finishing in one hour and 18 minutes. The former Wimbledon finalist produced the match’s only break in the eighth game of the first set and again grabbed a late break in the second to close out the straight-sets win.
In the second rubber Cobolli produced a spirited comeback, beating Jaume Munar 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5. Munar controlled the opening set with two breaks and built an early lead in the second, but Cobolli immediately fought back, taking the second in a tight tiebreak. He then secured the decisive break in the 11th game of the final set and served out the match to love, sealing the title for Italy.
