Bedard emerged as a young hockey prospect, being named “the future of hockey” in an article by The Hockey News, in 2018.

Bedard played minor hockey with West Vancouver Academy Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

While playing with this school’s U15 and U18 teams, Bedard led the league in goals and points and was named Most Valuable Player both years.

In March 2020, Bedard was granted exceptional status by Hockey Canada, and in the WHL Bantam Draft in 2020, Bedard was selected first overall by the Regina Pats as the first ever Western Hockey League (WHL) player of exceptional status.

When Connor Bedard began the 2023 World Junior Championship, he had eight career goals in the competition.

Fast forward three games, and now he is tied for the most goals by a Canadian player. 

With his two goals during Canada’s 11-0 thumping of Austria on Thursday, Bedard tied Jordan Eberle with 14 goals in World Juniors play.

The Canadian sniper already is up to six goals and 14 points at the 2023 tournament. The 17-year-old phenom leads all skaters in both of those categories.

With two more games guaranteed for Canada, the consensus top pick in the 2023 NHL Draft certainly has more than enough time to break the record. He has scored in each of Canada’s first three WJC games, including a hat trick against Germany.

Bedard has a chance to take sole possession of first place on Canada’s all-time World Juniors goal list as he tied Jordan Eberle for No. 1 with his two-goal performance against Austria. 

He entered the 2023 tournament with eight goals. He has scored in each of Canada’s first three games in the competition.

Tom Bedard worked in the forest industry his entire adult life and he used to travel 8 hours per day.

He worked hard and made many sacrifices for Connor and Madisen to pursue their love of sports.

Conner’s father used to go to a difficult job at three in the morning and come back to drive him to practice.

Tom has always supported and motivated his children in their careers.

Tom Bedard is a second-generation logger and a big reason why the 17-year-old phenom is so focused. “He’s a pretty hard worker,” Bedard said.
