Luke Littler produced a 104.70 average as he began his defence of the Lecot Belgian Darts Open with a 6-2 victory over Boris Krcmar at the Oktoberhallen in Wieze on Saturday.
Fresh from his dramatic Premier League comeback in Dublin two days earlier — when he recovered from 5-0 down to beat Gerwyn Price 6-5 — the 19-year-old was more clinical in Belgium. Littler raced into a 4-0 lead, twice finishing on double 19, and although he missed five match darts in the seventh leg he responded with back-to-back 180s to start the eighth. He could not complete a nine-darter but closed out the win, landing six 180s in the match, and will face Niels Zonneveld in the last 16. Zonneveld had beaten last year’s runner-up Mike De Decker 6-5 earlier in the session.
Littler said he loves playing in Wieze and that the venue has been good to him, adding that the recent Premier League result had put him in good spirits heading into the European Tour event.
Humphries survives scare; Bunting, Wade, Rock and Aspinall fall
World No 2 Luke Humphries was pushed by Dirk van Duijvenbode but held on to win 6-4. Humphries led 4-0 before his Dutch opponent fought back; van Duijvenbode missed a dart to level at 5-5 and Humphries closed out the match, ending on a 100.25 average.
Michael van Gerwen beat Mickey Mansell 6-4, and Jonny Clayton defeated Sebastian Bialecki 6-3. There were notable upsets as James Wade and Stephen Bunting exited in the second round, losing to Cristo Reyes and Andy Baetens respectively. Josh Rock, still without a win in his Premier League debut season, was beaten 6-4 by Kim Huybrechts, while Nathan Aspinall fell 6-3 to Ryan Joyce.
