Igor Thiago made Brentford history with a second-half double as the Bees beat Burnley 3-1 at Gtech Community Stadium.
His first, a penalty after 81 minutes, took him to 10 Premier League goals for the season — reached in just 13 appearances — beating the club’s previous fastest double-figure mark set by Ivan Toney (15 games in 2022/23. Thiago then added a second within five minutes after Zian Flemming had levelled from the spot, before Dango Ouattara wrapped up the victory in the 92nd minute.
Brentford’s third straight home win lifts them to eighth in the table, while Burnley remain in the bottom three after their eighth defeat in 11 league matches.
The first half passed without major incident. Nathan Collins had a headed chance from a Brentford corner early on, and Burnley’s best opening came just before half-time when Caoimhin Kelleher tipped a speculative Zian Flemming effort over the bar.
Early in the second half, Ouattara was flagged offside in a build-up that would have given Thiago a goal, but the opener eventually arrived when Axel Tuanzebe brought Ouattara down in the box. A VAR check confirmed the contact and that Thiago was onside, and he calmly converted the penalty.
Seconds later Michael Kayode was penalised for a foul on Jaidon Anthony and Flemming equalised from the spot. The drama continued late on: Rico Henry attacked a cross and the ball fell kindly for Thiago to smash a high finish into the net, and in the third of nine added minutes Ouattara controlled a sublime Jordan Henderson pass and finished to add gloss to the scoreline.
What’s next: Brentford and Burnley both continue their Premier League campaigns with fixtures to come.
