Michael Brennan won the Wyndham Championship by three strokes over Beau Hossler, a victory that also guaranteed him a place in the FedExCup Playoffs.
Brennan produced a hot stretch of five consecutive birdies between holes four and eight and, after a bogey at the 11th, regained momentum with birdies at 13 and 18. He also saved par at the 17th with an excellent second shot after his tee shot found the rough, a sequence that helped preserve his lead down the stretch.
Hossler, who had shared the overnight lead with Brennan, kept himself in contention early with a birdie at the third and an eagle at the par-five fifth. But bogeys at the ninth and 12th allowed Brennan to pull away as the leader kept up the pressure.
Brennan said he felt in control through the front nine and was mainly focused on staying within his game. He admitted to getting a bit nervous around holes 10 and 11 but credited a key par putt on 12 for steadying him. Reflecting on what the win means, he called it everything, noting he has been playing the best golf of his year over recent weeks despite a couple of difficult Sundays. The win capped a long run of starts for him, and he joked he might have to ‘run on fumes’ next week but was happy to do so.
England’s Harry Hall closed with a 65 to finish tied for fifth, one shot ahead of compatriot Matt Wallace, who also posted a closing 65 and ended in a share of seventh.
