Wolves wrapped up Deadline Day business by signing striker Adam Armstrong and bringing in midfielder Angel Gomes on loan, strengthening the squad ahead of the run-in.
Armstrong arrives from Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year contract in a deal reported to be worth around 7 million pounds plus a further 2 million in potential add-ons. The 28-year-old, who has netted 11 Championship goals this season, said he was honoured to move to Molineux, praised the squad’s work ethic and vowed to give his all for the club.
Manager Rob Edwards described Armstrong as a competitor who brings goals and tactical flexibility, able to play centrally or off the flanks. Edwards stressed the club’s focus on recruiting players who will make a positive difference both on and off the pitch.
Gomes joins on loan from Marseille until the end of the season, with an option for Wolves to make the deal permanent. A product of Manchester United’s academy, Gomes moved to Lille in 2020 and signed for Marseille last summer on a free transfer, but has seen limited action recently, registering just eight minutes of Ligue 1 football since December. Edwards noted his long-standing relationship with Gomes from their time at the FA and hailed him as a technically gifted player with a strong footballing intelligence who will add creativity and quality in midfield.
The arrivals came after the club sanctioned the sale of Jorgen Strand Larsen, who completed a club-record move to Crystal Palace earlier on Deadline Day. Palace paid a reported fixed fee of 43 million pounds plus up to 5 million in add-ons for the striker. Strand Larsen, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season, departs after 18 months at Wolves, having scored once this term.
