Tiger Woods will return to the Jupiter Links lineup for the final night of the TGL season on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports.
Woods has mostly served in a non-playing capacity for Jupiter Links this year after last competing on the PGA Tour in July 2024 and undergoing back surgery in October. He had hoped to play in the TGL but did not take part in the semi-final win over Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common on March 17, nor in Match 1 of the SoFi Cup Finals on Monday.
Los Angeles Golf Club edged Jupiter Links 6-5 in the opener to go 1-0 up in the best-of-three series. Woods will replace Kevin Kisner in Tuesday’s season finale at the SoFi Center. Woods, Max Homa and Tom Kim will face Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Sahith Theegala for Los Angeles. Jupiter Links must win Match 2 (11pm UK time) to level the series and force a deciding Match 3 later the same night (if required, 1am Wednesday UK time); a Los Angeles victory would clinch the title.
Woods reflected on Monday’s loss: “As a team, we were together in this, all of us together, and it was close. We had our opportunities; they had their opportunities. We could have flipped in the middle of that back nine, and it came down to the last hole. We were in a playoff once, and this was damn near there. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, but we have possibly two more matches. We’re not out of this. Even with a loss we’re still not out of it.”
How the opener unfolded
The first match used the triples (3v3 alternate-shot) format. Kisner missed a six-foot birdie putt on the opening hole, and Los Angeles seized momentum by birdying the par-five second. Theegala found a penalty area off the tee and later missed a three-foot bogey putt at the par-three sixth; Fleetwood then lipped out from a similar distance on the next hole, giving Jupiter Links a 2-1 lead.
Rose chipped in from 35 feet at the eighth to tie the match. Los Angeles declined the Hammer at the ninth (a decision that would have doubled that hole’s points), leaving Jupiter Links with a narrow advantage heading into singles.
Los Angeles went 4-3 up when Rose won the 10th, and Jupiter Links again declined the Hammer on 11. Kisner levelled at the 12th after Theegala sent another shot into the penalty area. Homa took advantage of a missed birdie putt from Rose at the 13th, and Kim and Fleetwood traded birdies at the 14th to leave Jupiter Links one ahead with one hole to play.
Los Angeles then deployed the Hammer on the final hole to double its value. Theegala converted a two-putt birdie while Kisner failed to make a chip-in, handing Los Angeles the 6-5 victory and a 1-0 lead in the series.
Fleetwood said afterwards: “I feel like we got away with one today. They’re a good team. They’re a tough team. I feel like I want to give them a lot of credit for the unit that they are. It was very close tonight. It could have gone either way. We could be stood here one game down very easily. We’ve had the better of them twice, but we have to focus on tomorrow.”
