Sky Sports Racing’s cameras are at Ffos Las, Hereford and Wolverhampton for a busy day of action.
4.18 Ffos Las — Sean Bowen Champion Jockey Handicap Chase (three miles)
Ten go to post in the feature at Ffos Las, where Rebecca Curtis teams up with last month’s Chepstow scorer The Boola Boss. The ten-year-old regained winning form after a year without a victory and prefers sounder ground, so conditions look in his favour as he seeks a seventh career success.
Buckna, third behind The Boola Boss at Chepstow, represents Warren Greatrex and arrives 5lb better off on official ratings. The booking of James Bowen is a notable boost for the six-year-old, who produced his best run of the season that day.
Copshill Lad has taken to chasing this season and returned from an 88-day break to win over a slightly longer trip at Southwell in March. He should handle the drop back in trip as he seeks a third success over fences for Harry Derham.
Also of interest in the competitive line-up are Elizabeth Gale’s Karuma Grey and Neil Mulholland’s Hell Hound, both of whom could be influential in the finish.
7.30 Wolverhampton — Free Digital Racecard At raceday-ready.com Handicap (extended nine furlongs)
A compact but intriguing field of four meets over the extended mile and a furlong. Lexington Express has been consistent since joining Marco Botti, with two wins from six starts including a recent success at Dunstall Park. Marco Ghiani returns to ride, having won twice from three rides on the filly.
Taylor Fisher’s Zipwire is remarkably solid, not finishing outside the top three since last August. That durable form has produced two wins at Wolverhampton and he attempts to add a third career victory from a career-high mark.
Mimi’s Magic, a Cable Bay filly, ran a respectable third on her seasonal reappearance at Newcastle and makes her handicap debut for Ed Dunlop with Rossa Ryan booked. James Fanshawe’s Tinsel, ridden by Tom Marquand, returns after beating Zipwire over course and distance late last year and is another to note.
9.00 Wolverhampton — Get The Inside Track With raceday-ready.com Fillies’ Handicap (six furlongs)
Magna bids for a hat-trick for Tony Carroll and Rossa Ryan. The four-year-old has been ultra-consistent, unbeaten outside the top three since October and arriving on the back of wins over course and distance and at Lingfield.
Ruth Carr’s Daytona Lady, victorious over course and distance two weeks ago, is the obvious danger and carries a 2lb penalty with James Sullivan again booked. So Sassy for James Fanshawe is an interesting contender back at six furlongs but will have to shoulder top weight. James Owen’s Moostar runs in first-time visor and could be supported in the market.
Best of the rest
Over in France, Saint-Cloud stages Group 3 Prix Greffulhe at 14:05, where trainer Francis-Henri Graffard—last year’s winning handler with Midak—saddles Regal Resolve and Waybreaker. At 14:40, Daryzan, a full-brother to Arc winner Daryz, makes his debut for the same yard.
Later at Saint-Cloud, Lamiya, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Lazzat, looks for a first success for Jérôme Reynier at 15:50.
Back in Britain, Nico de Boinville teams up with Nicky Henderson’s Ettore, fitted with first-time cheekpieces, in Hereford’s Green Dragon Hotel Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (19:47).
On the flat, champion jockey Oisin Murphy rides Wosta for John and Thady Gosden in Wolverhampton’s Get Raceday Ready Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes, making a first start for the yard.
Keep an eye on all three venues for close finishes and market moves as each race approaches.
