2.20 Plumpton — Nardaran eyes a hat‑trick in the Old Gold Racing Handicap Hurdle
Nardaran bids to complete a third successive victory in the £22,500 Old Gold Racing Handicap Hurdle. The Paul Nicholls-trained bay, owned by Martin Broughton and ridden by Harry Cobden, won readily by nine lengths at Plumpton over two miles on October 20 and followed up at Sandown. Cobden eased him clear by just under three lengths at Sandown while carrying an 8 lb penalty; the handicapper has since added a further 7 lb, but Nicholls will hope he remains competitive off the new mark.
He faces nine opponents, most notably the experienced ten-year-old Faivoir, whose last success was in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2023 and who could halt Nardaran’s run. Tristan Durrell takes 3 lb off Listentoyourheart for the in-form Skelton yard; that mare now stands 1 lb below her last winning rating. Nicky Henderson runs Goblet Of Fire, and Gold For Alec, who showed marked improvement last time, is another to keep an eye on.
3.19 Plumpton — Ballynaheer hopes to shrug off a 6 lb rise
Ballynaheer tackles the Arc Supports Charlotte Savill Memorial Raceday Handicap Chase looking to overcome a 6 lb penalty. Trainer David Dennis sends him here after a convincing win at Warwick earlier this month, where he scored by just under five lengths in the PricedUp The Jumps Handicap Chase. The extra weight is a factor, but the manner of that Warwick victory suggested there could be more to come.
Top-rated Ballyfinn returns following a disappointing hurdle outing at Fontwell in May and makes his chase debut for Anthony Honeyball with Rex Dingle taking the ride — a pairing in good form who could make an impact.
3.35 Newcastle — Teumessias Fox heads 0-105 handicap
Teumessias Fox tops the weights in the opening Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap at Newcastle. Andrew Balding’s gelding, owned by King Power, recorded his first Newcastle success on his third start in March 2022. He’s had some modest runs recently but finished behind Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Ethical Diamond at the Royal meeting in June, hinting his true form might be better than recent results suggest. William Carver takes the mount.
Second in the weights is Frances Ethel, who ran nine times in Hong Kong before joining William Haggas in October. He was last of nine on his Newmarket debut for the yard in the Pony Academy Pride Stakes, but with four wins in Hong Kong to his name he should be given time to settle and is expected to improve.
