Jannik Sinner completed a historic sweep at the Miami Open, becoming the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete the Sunshine Double of Indian Wells and Miami in the same season. The world No. 2 beat Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 and became the first player ever to win both events in one season without dropping a set.
Sinner dominated through serve and pressure moments, winning 92% of his first-serve points and saving all three break points he faced. The 24-year-old has now won 34 consecutive sets at ATP Masters 1000 events and improved his 2026 record to 19-2. He had taken Indian Wells last week by defeating Daniil Medvedev and secured his second Miami title in a 93-minute final.
In the match Lehecka lost serve for the first time in the tournament to fall 3-1 in the opening set, then saved two set points at 5-3 before Sinner closed the set in 47 minutes. Play was halted for an 80-minute delay three points into the second set, but Sinner was unfazed: he faced no break points in the second set and wrapped up the victory.
Sinner is only the eighth man to win back-to-back Indian Wells and Miami titles. Players who have completed the Sunshine Double: Jim Courier (1991), Michael Chang (1992), Pete Sampras (1994), Marcelo Rios (1998), Andre Agassi (2001), Roger Federer (2005, 2006, 2017), Novak Djokovic (2011, 2014, 2015, 2016), and Jannik Sinner (2026).
The triumph is Sinner’s seventh ATP Masters 1000 title and his 26th ATP crown overall. In the ATP Live Rankings he remains behind world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz by 1,190 points. The win also extended several streaks and milestones that underline his recent dominance at the biggest ATP events.
After the match Sinner said, “We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I’m really, really happy, and I’m also happy to go back home now. Making the Sunshine Double here for the first time, it’s incredible. It’s something I would have never thought, because it’s difficult to achieve, and we made it somehow, so I’m very happy.” Commentators praised his performance: Tim Henman called it “an incredible performance” and “relentless,” while Marion Bartoli highlighted his trust in his team, work ethic and continual improvement.
Sinner’s Miami victory caps a month of statement-making form and cements his place among the game’s leading players as he builds momentum through the season.
