Head coach Charlotte Edwards said the selection meetings were among the toughest she’s been involved in because of the depth of talent available, and stressed the significance of hosting a World Cup at home for the growth and legacy of women’s cricket in England.
Sciver-Brunt described it as a huge honour to lead the side in front of home crowds and family, adding that the squad have been building toward this summer and are determined to reclaim the title. She referenced past tournament triumphs and the wider ambition to create something special with this group before the tournament starts, with warm-up matches against New Zealand and India.
Sky Sports commentator Michael Atherton singled out Sciver-Brunt and Lauren Bell as key players to watch, noting the importance of strong captaincy under pressure and the value of opening bowlers finding movement in English conditions.

Alongside the T20 squad, selectors named the squad for the Metro Bank One Day international series against New Zealand as the start of a new ODI World Cup cycle. Five players from the T20 group are added for the ODIs, and two players—Kira Chathli and Jodi Grewcock—receive their first international call-ups.
Notable availability and workload notes: Sophia Dunkley, Charlie Dean and Danni Wyatt-Hodge will miss the ODI series to manage workloads; Wyatt-Hodge is also expecting her first child. Sarah Glenn was not considered for selection as she continues to recover from a broken finger.
