Ryan Moore announced his return to the top level by winning the Longines International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley, claiming the title for a third time following victories in 2009 and 2010. The 42-year-old sealed the win aboard Triumphant More.
Moore had missed the end of the Flat season with a stress fracture to his femur and only returned to race-riding a week earlier, promptly coming back to the winner’s enclosure at Lingfield. At Happy Valley he produced two winners — Corleone and Triumphant More — finishing top of the leaderboard after the event’s four legs. He said he felt fortunate to be back and that both rides had worked out well, adding that Triumphant More’s turn of foot and acceleration had been decisive.
William Buick ended as joint second after guiding Bunta Baby to victory in the opening five-furlong handicap, a neck win in which he noted the horse came from far back and covered a lot of ground; it was Buick’s first winner at Happy Valley. Hugh Bowman also shared second place. Hollie Doyle, despite competing, finished out of the prize positions.
