Patrick Reed extended his impressive start to 2026 by taking a solo lead at the halfway point of the Qatar Masters. He closed his second round with a birdie at the par‑five 18th to post a 67 and lie on 12 under par.
The American sits one clear of Joakim Lagergren, who carded a 66 after playing the back nine first in Doha. Lagergren produced a remarkable escape on the second hole when he and his caddie removed large rocks to reach his ball, then played an unlikely shot onto the green and saved par.
Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last month and lost a dramatic three‑way play‑off at the Bahrain Championship last weekend, said he found parts of Friday frustrating. His only bogey came at the 15th and he felt his ball‑striking wasn’t as sharp as the previous day, but he missed in playable spots and his game settled toward the end of the round.
A shot further back on 11 under are Daniel Hillier and Richard Sterne, with Hillier threatening the lead before finishing bogey‑par. England’s Matt Wallace, Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson and Spain’s Angel Ayora all shot 66 to move into a share of fifth on nine under.
Reed announced on January 28 that he will leave LIV Golf and return to the PGA Tour in 2027; he will remain on the DP World Tour for the rest of this year.
