Sky Sports pundit Glenn Murray criticized Newcastle for lacking a cutting edge after their away loss to an organised and effective Marseille side. He praised Marseille’s discipline and their ability to convert the opportunities they were given, while saying Newcastle created openings but repeatedly failed to finish them. Murray highlighted a clear lack of end product in the final third — poor decision-making, rushed attempts and missed chances at pivotal moments — as the decisive factor. Although Newcastle showed moments of quality in possession and probed for gaps, they were ultimately punished for their inability to be ruthless in front of goal. Murray urged the squad to sharpen their finishing and remain more composed under pressure, and called on the manager to find ways to turn good possession and chance creation into goals in future European fixtures. Improving attacking movement and penalty-area composure, he said, will be essential if Newcastle are to compete at this level.
