Rory McIlroy successfully defended his Masters crown at Augusta National, adding another dramatic chapter to his major record. After building the largest 36-hole lead in Masters history, he slipped back into a shared lead before regrouping on Sunday. Facing rivals including Cameron Young and Justin Rose through a fluctuating final round, McIlroy recovered from being two shots behind to clinch victory.
The world No. 2 produced back-to-back birdies starting at the seventh to regain momentum, then added more birdies around Amen Corner to open a three-shot advantage with five holes to play. He finished despite a bogey at the 72nd hole for the second year running. The win ties McIlroy with Sir Nick Faldo on six major titles and makes him the fourth player ever to win consecutive Masters, joining Jack Nicklaus, Faldo and Tiger Woods.
