Manchester United and Bournemouth served up one of the season’s most explosive Premier League games, finishing 4-4 as Ruben Amorim tinkered with his formation. Amorim, who has frequently deployed a 3-4-3, began with a modified shape and by the middle of the second half had shifted to an adventurous 4-2-4. Whatever the system, United dominated early: their 17 first-half shots were the most by any side in a single first half this season.
United opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Amad Diallo nodded in after a brief VAR check that allowed the goal to stand — his final action before joining up for the Africa Cup of Nations. Bournemouth responded against the run of play when Luke Shaw was muscled off the ball and Antoine Semenyo powered home to make it 1-1. On the stroke of half-time Casemiro restored United’s lead with a headed goal from a corner, United’s seventh set-piece strike this season.
The second half burst into life almost immediately: Evanilson levelled just 38 seconds after the restart, then Marcus Tavernier curled a superb free-kick into the bottom corner to put Bournemouth 3-2 ahead. United hit back swiftly — Bruno Fernandes curled an excellent free-kick to equalise, and Matheus Cunha turned home from close range to put United back in front.
Late drama arrived when substitute Eli Junior Kroupi slipped between defenders to fire home and complete an incredible 4-4 draw in an eight-goal thriller.
The point lifts Manchester United to sixth on 26 points, level with Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Sunderland; Bournemouth climb to 13th.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher described the contest on Monday Night Football as “the best game of the Premier League season so far,” praising United’s first-half intensity under Amorim. The United manager called it “a fun game” but said his team should have taken all three points, lamenting lapses in concentration and moments lacking clinical edge. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said the match “had everything,” applauding his side’s attacking intent but admitting defensive mistakes — notably the corner that led to Casemiro’s goal — cost them.
Team news: Noussair Mazraoui was unavailable for United due to AFCON, so Leny Yoro started; fellow AFCON participants Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo both started. Benjamin Sesko returned to the matchday squad after a knee injury. Bournemouth made one change with Tyler Adams selected instead of Alex Scott, but Adams was injured inside four minutes and Scott came on.
